Star Wars: The Last Jedi director on Kylo Ren Changes

Coming off a jarring number of loving and adoring fans at Star Wars Celebration, The Last Jedi director has found himself having to defend himself for what he thought was a minor alteration.

In the week since The Last Jedi’s trailer made its debut at Celebration, Star Wars devotees have torn it apart frame-by-frame to see if there are any clues hidden within. One of the lesser important details fans managed to dig up was the realization that the scar Kylo Ren sports on his face from his battle with Rey in The Force Awakens has been slightly moved.
As seen in the images being compared below, Kylo Ren’s scar has definitely moved. The former version was a little higher up on the left side of Kylo Ren’s face, while the new version is slightly lower and to the right.

Why is this a big deal? The short and easy answer is that a large faction of Star Wars fans are also dedicated cosplayers. In order for the continuity to make sense, the scar needs to be in the exact same place. Otherwise, some will be cosplaying as Kylo Ren from The Force Awakens while others may be cosplaying the version from from The Last Jedi.
Although it’s not immediately noticeable, Star Wars fans did pick up on it. Almost immediately after, a number of fans began tweeting at director Rian Johnson with questions over whether or not the move has a significant reason in the film, and if not, why did he make the decision to do so in the first place? In the midst of all the drama, there were a couple of Star Wars fans who managed to find the humor in the absurdity of it all.
